The Wire is universally regarded as one of the greatest (if not definitively the greatest) television shows of all time. It’s a gritty look at the world of crime from both sides of the fence (criminal and police) that makes a point of pulling no punches on either end. The cops are, occasionally, assholes; the criminals are, occasionally, decent humans stuck in a shitty situation. More than a few people involved in the life have made a point to emphasize just how true to life it is.
For a person who previously worked for a couple of police organizations and has spent the subsequent years of her life desperately trying to forget everything involved, the realness is something I’ve been trying to avoid. But, as my therapy sessions reach their conclusion, I’m now left with finding ways to continue to work on my PTSD outside of that forum.
