Get to know writer Emily Chadick Weiss:
1. Why should your script be made into a film?
“The Share” is like a post-recession Friends – it looks at how people with unstable footing reach for who and what they want. It’s got some slapstick comedy and romance which are my requisites for watching a new show.
2. How long have you been writing screenplays?
I started writing screenplays freshman year of college, but The Share is my first TV pilot.
3. What film have you seen the most in your life?
When Harry Met Sally – long live Nora Ephron!
4. What artists in the film industry would you love to work with?
I think Spike Jonze is a fantastic director. I love Mindy Kaling’s work on The Mindy Project, and I’d love to write something for the great Tina Fey and Kristin Wiig.
5. How many screenplays have you written?
I’ve written four feature length screenplays and one 22 minute TV pilot, The Share. My screenplays are The Next Nastia, The Life and Times Of, Helping Yourself and Kill the One – all comedic in one way or another.
6. Ideally, where would you like to be in 5 years?
I would love to be on staff for a great sitcom or working on my own sitcom which has been running for a few years. I’d also love to have plays being produced all over the world and my screenplays in production. I like to aim high.
7. Describe your process; do you have a set routine, method for writing?
I usually write in the morning or afternoon with caffeine by my side. Night time is for chillin’.
8. Apart from writing, what else are you passionate about?
I want better public schools in NYC, more hospitals in NYC, and I love seeing women in power like Hillary Clinton. I am also a long time fan of pasta and women’s gymnastics.
9. What influenced you to enter the TV PILOT Contest?
There aren’t many festivals out there for TV pilots so I was relieved to find this – I got great feedback on my script.
10. Any advice or tips you’d like to pass on to other writers?
Keep the dream alive and keep trucking.
